World War 2 Evacuation.

Alexander House Children's home, group of evacuees

I was placed in a Children’s home Alexander House on the old Great North Road during World War 2.

Matron Thorogood was in charge at the time. During my time there the local school was hit by a Doodlebug, this was much too close for comfort and the house shook.

In the photograph, I am 3rd from left standing with Matron behind.
