This school was founded by Anne, 5th Countess of Salisbury for forty girls, twenty of whom she chose and paid for.
These schools, for boys and girls respectively, were in the Great North Road, just south of The Wrestlers bridge.
The London Road (National) School was built by public subscription in 1850, the year the railway came to Hatfield.
This school was run by the Rev. Benjamin Peile, Curate of Hatfield , and his wife Angel, for about 12 boys who boarded.
The Rev. Francis Joseph Faithfull was Curate of Hatfield in 1812 and then Rector from 1819 until his death in 1854.
