Hatfield School New Entry Photos

This is the beginning of a new Post – which will eventually contain readable prints of all the New Entry Photos, with as many names matched to the faces as we can collectively manage to remember. The format is very similar to the ‘HS 6th form Photos’ Post which is now as complete as we can make it, although there are still significant numbers of unmatched faces.

The available New Entry photos are listed in the Post: ‘hatfield-school-panoramic-photos-and-lists-of-pupils-and-staff-1953-1978-v2’ and copies of any of them in .jpg file form are still available on request – just email me, directly if you have my address, or via   admin@ourhatfield.org.uk   who will forward me your message.

The 1953 photo was copied by Chris Hepden from a print originally framed and hung in one of the HS corridors. The names matching was done by Lorna Barford (now Noble) HS 1953-’58, by Janet Wheeler (now Reddish) HS 1953-’60 by Anthony Ellender HS 1953-?, and the majority by Michael Hutton HS 1955-’62, from original annotations by Kenneth Hutton.

The 1954 photo was copied by Chris Hepden (also from an original HS corridor copy), with the majority of the names-matching done by Michael Hutton HS 1955-’62, from original annotations by Kenneth Hutton.

The 1955 photo was provided and names-matched by Michael Hutton HS 1955-’62, from original annotations by Kenneth Hutton.

The 1956 photo was also provided and annotated by Chris Hepden and Michael Hutton, with much of the the matching data provided by Beryl Foster (now Watson), John Rennocks, Tom Templeman, Ken Doggrell and Mick Pestle.

The 1957 photo was provided and annotated by Chris Hepden, strongly supported by Michael Hutton, Colin Tether, Graham Morris, Colin Crumplin, David Hutton, James Smith, Jeff Humphry, Michael Pestle and Mike Mende.

The 1958 photo was provided and annotated by Chris Hepden,  Julie Bishop (now Capasso), David Harkess, Peter Smith, Richard Sharpe and Michael Hutton.

The 1959 photo was provided and annotated by Chris Hepden,  Dave Mobbs, Barbara Stanley, Brian Hill, and Michael Hutton.

The 1960 photo copy was made by Chris Hepden, and the names-matching achieved by…..(list of contributors being checked !)

The 1961 photo copy was originally made by Chris Hepden, but was improved by Owen Leaver; the names-matching was done mainly by Owen Leaver, Dudley Barker and Susan Hawkins (now Susan Glands), with minor additions from Chris Hepden. There are still five young faces unmatched, and six slightly older faces who were probably late joiners to HS; can you recognise any of them ?

The 1962 photo copy was made by Chris Hepden, and the majority of the pupils’ names provided by Brian Long – a very significant contribution. Please try and recall names for any of the as yet unnamed faces, and email them to me; my address is still shown at the end of the photos and original text of the Post: “Remembering One Track Mac” , or email me via the OurHatfield staff using the ‘contact us’ button in the header of any of the Posts.

The 1963 NE photo preparation is now published – below – with only about a dozen faces not yet matched. the vast majority of the matching has been done by Lorna Bain – now Lorna Joy. She would be glad of any helpful recollections – if you have any I’ll be glad to put you in touch with her.

The 1964 photo copy, and all of the names were provided by Michael Hutton, from a hand-annotated print of Kenneth Hutton’s; the transcription being a time-consuming process; thanks Michael !

The 100% matched  copy of the 1965 photo was largely matched by Lester Wallis-Smith; the unmatched photo was copied by Chris Hepden.

The well-matched copy of the 1966 NE photo which was provided in April 2021 by a team of Paul Atkin, David Kohn, David Edwards and Dee Golder, with overlaid annotations by David Kohn, is now on the Post.

The 1967 NE photo was added in mid October 2023, with very sparsely matched names. Further work is being done, and anyone who can suggest some more matches is asked to email the info to me – Chris Hepden – directly if you have my address or can find it within the text of the Post ‘Early Days of Hatfield School’ , or via Our Hatfield through the ‘Contact Us’ button on the heading of any of the Posts/webpages.

If yours is a later year, please do contact me to request a .jpg version of your year’s photo.The partially complete lists of matched face-names, currently saved in a variety of emails and s preadsheets, will be the basis for the annotations in the newer Posts. If you can add or correct the annotated names, please email me.

Remaining years’ photos:

We have panoramic photos for years 1968 to ’71, ’74 and ’78, many of which are already partly annotated or name-matched.

We also have a very large – approx 740-faces – photo of the whole school – well almost everyone – for Summer 1966; the event was arranged so Kenneth Hutton would have a suitable record before he left.

The completion and publication of the rest of these historical items will continue in approximately their date order. PLEASE do write and join in.
