  • I remember Mr Machen too. Lining the boys up in assembly on a Friday for the slipper. I loved that school though, everything about it. Mr Machen died the year I went to Bishops Hatfield Girls. Yes he was strict but we all took flowers to say goodbye. It was sad at the time.

I remember the maypole and country dancing. Things kids don’t get to do these days. Great memories.

  • Mr, Machen was feared by all!! seated in front of his office was akin to being hanged at dawn. I was court on the roof collecting lost balls that I could see from my bedroom window.
I have good Memories of my time in the late 60`s
I lived at the school grounds boundary Travellers lane. My mother helped create the kinder garden next to our house.

  • Went to Bishops Wood school in the mid 60’s. I seem to remember a misreble nasty headmaster Mr Machen who would slipper or cane you. I hated going to school and it wasn’t a nice experience for me at all. I also remember a groundskeeper Bob (Robert) Cap who seemed very stearn. We met up in my 50’s as he was my wife’s mothers partner. We got on well together, unfortunately he later died of Parkinsons.
