This photo was taken in the 1930s and shows the de Havilland company on the right hand side of the Barnet By-pass and the de Havilland flats on the left hand side. These were demolished in the 1970s.

  • Interesting to see the flats on the site of what is now “Walsingham Close” where I live now. I believe they stood there until being demolished when the Hatfield tunnel was excavated. No houses on Lemsford Rd. either, when the photo was taken.

  • This is a very interesting photograph, I’d love to find the date but it must be early thirties because it shows that the Comet Hotel had not been built, but Selwyn Drive and Selwyn Avenue had been started, no Selwyn Crescent though. I had not realised before how large the factory had already become by this time.
