St Audrey's Easter Trips

By Michael Browne

Who can remember the Easter School Trips of St. Audrey’s School of the late 1940s and early 50s to North Wales and The Lake District. Normally Curly Kirkham took a party to the Lake District while Mr Evans took one to North Wales. But in 1952 Curly took on the North Wales trip to walk to and climb Cadair Idris, Moel-Siabod and Snowdon, staying in Youth Hostels. The photo shows the party (photo obviously taken by Curly) on the roadside wall opposite the Dolwyddelan Youth Hostel before beginning our full days walk to the Snowden Ranger Hostel.  We went up Snowdon the next day, the top section being still deep in snow and they were still clearing the snow from the railway tracks. A very tiring but exhilarating holiday for us in those days when there were few foreign holidays, but wonderful memories.  I’d love to hear from any who are still about and can remember this trip. I’m still trying to work out the names, but will add what I can soon.
