  • Back Row, Second left definitely LLOYD MILEHAM. He owned and ran A1 Road Services Garage on St. Albans Road between the Stonehouse and The Comet, opposite de Havillands. The garage sold petrol and did car servicing. It had the first hydraulic inspection lift in the country. He had the garage until the early sixities when it was bought by compulsory purchase for redevelopment. The Galleria.

  • My father, Norman Paxton, was in the Civil Defence as late as the late 1950’s. I was born in 1953 and can remember him going to meetings. I think they were held in the Nissen huts which may have been on St. Albans road, I’m not sure. ( We also went there for immunisations etc ). I still have the big black buttons with C.D. On them from his black overcoat.    Linda Rose ( Paxton ).
